Vegan Whole Food Advocacy
Hello and welcome!
There are many roads that lead to veganism. Le Twisted Spoon hopes to make it a final destination by providing, recipes, workshops, and an online community for education and support. We can all prepare meals that make our stomachs and our hearts feel good. And it’s sustainable!
As I became more active in my local community, I realized that there is a real need for plant-based food advocacy. I’m currently seeking more opportunities to partner with local groups and expose our communities to the benefits of a well-balanced vegan diet.
WHAT IS PLANT-BASED WHOLE FOOD ADVOCACY?
Ok. I may have made it up. I’m not sure if there is really a specific name for what I do, but I know I’m not the only one doing it. Essentially, I want to introduce as many people as possible to delicious plant-based whole-food dishes, teach them how to cook for themselves, and why it’s important we do so.
WHY ADVOCACY?
It’s really a merger of my many passions.
Education: I have long believed that our ability to learn from each other is one of humanity’s greatest assets. The ability to pass on knowledge and experience is fundamental to progress. I spent a long time in school earning the above degrees, but I’ve also done quite a bit of teaching as well. Consulting and training often go hand in hand, preparing my clients for more than just the specific task at hand. I’ve also taught in formal situations guest lecturing at IPAG Business School in Paris, and most recently Amiko Learning Center in Brighton. My favorite thing about teaching is the opportunity to learn new things from my students too. I’m a lifelong learner. I love books, documentaries, and lecture series. If I had the time, I’d probably go back to school and do a post-grad.
Quality Food: I found switching from traditional meat and veg diet to one that is plant-based rather difficult. There was so much to learn and it took years before I could regularly produce delicious meals that everyone ate. I really wanted to share that with other people, so I started Le Twisted Spoon, which is a whole food plant-based cooking membership. I can speak for hours about all of the amazing new foods that came to my attention like nutritional yeast, Braggs Liquid Aminos, and coconut yogurt. And I’m a feeder. I love to watch people enjoy the food I prepared. It’s a special type of satisfaction.
I’m most excited about doing food outreach programs. I want to teach people how to make the most of their budgets and include fresh, whole foods into their diet.
I’m very excited about the community outreach at Pittsford Village Farmer’s Market. I’ve had lots of great feedback and it’s amazing to talk to people about these things.
Self-sufficiency and Sustainability: Like many people, I’m beyond concerned about the effects our habits have on the environment. I really started focusing on personal changes after reading about plant-based diets reducing greenhouse gases. Of course, there were some other compelling facts that got us to rethink how our daily actions impact the world around us.
Over the years, we’ve made conscientious choices that help reduce the waste and impact we have on this planet, from growing our own veg and composting, to buying in bulk to reduce waste from coming in. And when I have a moment to go to my happy place, I’m usually sketching a self-sustaining eco-home and waiting for technology to iron out some of the kinks. I’m a huge techy and I’m constantly inspired by people who see a problem and them come up with new super cool solutions. It’s amazing.
I’m always looking for ways to do better when it comes to our environment, which is probably why I fell in love with the Frog House. I just love the combination of activism and education. I’m so proud to serve as a board member.
